The "Off-Fence" Mortising Kit (Click on images to enlarge)

Installed Off-Fence Kit

The Micro Fence "Off-Fence" Mortising Kit provides an aluminum secondary fence that opposes the Micro Fence Edge Guide and "entraps" the work piece, making it virtually impossible to wander from the edge of the material, (even when making multiple passes).

Operations such as blind or "stopped-off" mortises, (most efficiently cut with a plunge router), hinge and lock installations, fluting and reeding are all within the scope of this accessory.

The new version of our Universal Router Plate which is included in this kit, (see photo at left), is machined with four sets of drilled and tapped holes, providing "Off Fence" positioning for materials up to 4 1/2" in width. The plate is also drilled and counter-bored to accept template guide bushings (1.375" dia.).

When cutting mortises that are centered on a piece of material, (see photo at left), one initial test cut at an approximate center position will provide the information necessary to finalize the precise cut position.* Simply measure the material that is left on either side of the initial test cut and dial one-half of their difference toward center.

*The Universal Router Plate is notched on both sides to mark the centerline of the plate’s throat. This feature can be used to set initial “approximate” bit positions.

The Off Fence can also be used to place cuts off-center. The same test cut approach is utilized to find out how far the initial approximate position must be adjusted to achieve the result you want.

We have chosen to standardize this accessory to be fitted with our Model A Mounting Bar, which is required for its use.

Any router can be mounted on our Universal Router Plate. Each kit includes an aluminum- machined centering hub that aids in positioning your router's sub-base (when used as a template in drilling the mounting holes for your router). The hub is sized to accommodate the most popular template guide bushing size, 1.375"). Call us at 1.800.480.6427 regarding mounting requirements for specific router models.

You have the option of drilling the plate yourself, or of ordering the plate pre-drilled at the factory for your specific router (Micro Fence offers this service for $25).

Two Edge-Guide Option: (when using routers with 6 1/2" or smaller bases)

Our new Universal Router Plate is also pre-drilled and counter-bored to accept a second pair of Trimmer Posts (optional), that provide a position to mount a second, or opposing Micro Fence Edge Guide. (See photo at left). This set-up offers the ultimate degree of adjustibility and ease of set-up for all mortising, fluting and reeding operations with the Micro Fence System. Materials up to 12 inches wide can be accommodated (larger widths are possible though not recommended).
